In the wake of his studies, Battiato alternated
the pop musician with the more serious composer. The first of his
classical operas is Genesi, performed
in 1987.
In 1994, Battiato started a musical partnership with the philosopher Manlio
Sgalambro, who wrote texts for the drama Il
Cavaliere dell’Intelletto, dedicated to Frederick II.
In June 2000, Campi Magnetici,
performed for the first time. It's a ballett that tries its luck,
as Franco Battiato and Manlio Sgalambro remarked as introducing the work.
